Florida Class "D" Security Officer License Training
Become a Licensed Security Officer
We offer Florida Class "D" Security Officer License training and certification courses every month. Our comprehensive 42-hour program meets the State of Florida's licensing requirements and is designed to provide students with the knowledge and practical understanding needed to begin a career in private security.
Course Schedule
- Duration: 42 Hours
- Schedule: Monday through Thursday
- Class Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. (0800–1830)
- Length: Four (4) consecutive days (10.5 hours per day)
Course Tuition
The total tuition for the 42-hour Class "D" License course is $250.00.
To reserve your seat, a non-refundable $50.00 deposit is required at the time of registration. The remaining $200.00 balance is due on the first day of class.
Testing Requirements
The State-required examination consists of 170 questions. Rather than administering one large final exam, testing is conducted throughout the four-day course, covering the material taught at the end of each training day.
Students must achieve a minimum score of 85% to successfully complete the course.

The following Class "D" Security Officer License course dates are currently scheduled for 2026.
While every effort is made to maintain this schedule, class dates are subject to change if necessary. Please check this page prior to your scheduled class to confirm that your course dates have not changed.

Florida Class "D" License Certification 2026 Class Schedule
Class "G" Statewide Firearm License
Mandatory 8-Hour Live Fire Training & Qualification
(This is Range ONLY Qualification Class for those who have completed Online, G Class Training)
Training is scheduled by appointment.
Have you already completed the required 20-hour online Class "G" training? We now offer the mandatory 8-hour live fire training and firearms qualification required to complete the Florida Class "G" Statewide Firearm License training.
Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive a training certificate documenting your 8-hour live fire training and qualification. This certificate, along with the certificate you received for your 20-hour online training, must be submitted to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services when applying for your Class "G" License.
Student Equipment Requirements
Students are required to provide the following:
- A reliable handgun in the caliber you intend to carry while working.
- A quality holster designed for your firearm.
- A magazine pouch or magazine holder.
- A minimum of two (2) magazines (four are recommended).
- 150 rounds of factory ammunition for qualification.
- Hearing protection.
- Eye protection (prescription glasses or sunglasses are acceptable).
Please note: Students must already own their firearm before scheduling their live fire training.
Additional Training
The required qualification course uses approximately 150 rounds of ammunition.
Students are welcome to bring additional ammunition if they would like extra coaching and live-fire practice. Additional range instruction is provided at no additional instructional charge during your scheduled training session.
Range Fee
A $15.00 guest range fee is required and is paid directly to the shooting range on the day of training.
Course Tuition
The cost of the Class "G" 8-Hour Live Fire Training is $250.00.
A non-refundable $50.00 deposit is required when scheduling your training appointment. The remaining $200.00 balance is due on the day of training.

Florida Class "G" License Certification
Florida Class "G" Statewide Firearm License Training
Become a Licensed Armed Security Officer or Armed Private Investigator
We offer Florida Class "G" Statewide Firearm License training for licensed Class "D" Security Officers and Private Investigators who wish to carry a firearm while performing their duties.
Our training includes both the 28-hour initial Class "G" License course and the required annual 4-hour firearms requalification to maintain your license.
Initial Class "G" courses are offered monthly, and recertification classes are conducted twice each month.
Employer-Sponsored Students
If you are attending this course at the request of your employer, your company will advise you regarding tuition, equipment, and any items they provide.
Initial Class "G" Course Requirements
Students attending on their own who intend to work in a uniformed security position should provide the following equipment:
Firearm
- A reliable full-size revolver or semi-automatic pistol in the caliber you intend to carry while working.
- Compact and subcompact firearms are not permitted for this course. Most security employers do not authorize these firearms for duty use, and they are significantly more difficult to qualify with during the required State course of fire.
Ammunition
Students are required to qualify by firing the State-approved course of fire three (3) times.
- 48 rounds per qualification
- 144 rounds minimum required
Bring factory ammunition appropriate for your firearm, including calibers such as:
- .38 Special
- 9mm
- .40 S&W
- .45 ACP
Ammunition is NOT supplied.
Students must qualify with the same caliber firearm they intend to carry while on duty.
Duty Gear
It is recommended that students bring:
- Duty belt
- Security holster (Level II retention or higher preferred)
- Magazine pouch
- At least three (3) magazines
Safety Equipment
- Hearing protection
- Eye protection
Private Investigator Students
Students obtaining a Class "G" License to work as armed Private Investigators should follow their employer's equipment requirements. However, a suitable holster and magazine carrier are still required for qualification.
Initial Course Tuition
Class "G" Initial Course: $350.00
Tuition does not include:
- Ammunition
- $15.00 guest range fee (paid directly to the Escambia River Gun Club)
Annual Class "G" Firearms Requalification
Florida requires armed security officers and armed private investigators to complete a 4-hour annual firearms requalification to maintain their Class "G" License.
These classes are offered twice each month.
Equipment Requirements
Equipment requirements remain the same as the initial course.
Students are required to fire one qualification course (48 rounds minimum).
Although only one qualification is required, students who do not qualify on their first attempt may make additional attempts. For this reason, we strongly recommend bringing 144 rounds of ammunition to ensure sufficient ammunition is available if additional qualification attempts are necessary.
Recertification Tuition
Annual 4-Hour Requalification: $150.00
Tuition does not include:
- Ammunition
- $15.00 guest range fee (paid directly to the range)
Additional Firearm Calibers
Private Investigators who intend to carry more than one firearm should note the following:
- If both firearms are the same caliber, one qualification score sheet covers both firearms.
- If an additional firearm is a different caliber, a separate qualification is required for that caliber.
Each additional caliber qualification is $150.00
.

TACTICAL HANDGUN TRAINING COURSE FOR SECURITY PROFESSIONALS
Advanced Firearms Skills Course
Class Dates – To Be Announced (TBA)
Take your firearms skills beyond the minimum licensing requirements.
This 8-hour live-fire training course is designed for armed security officers who want to improve their firearm handling, defensive shooting skills, and confidence under realistic conditions.
This course serves as the foundation for future advanced training programs and is intended for students who already possess an active Florida Class "G" Statewide Firearm License and have prior firearms training.
Please Note: This is an advanced skills development course and is not a licensing or recertification class.
Course Topics
Training may include:
- Active Shooter / Move-to-Contact techniques
- Essential shooting fundamentals
- Drawing and firing from concealment
- Drawing and firing from cover
- Shooting while moving
- Injured officer reload techniques
- Flashlight shooting techniques
- Additional live-fire defensive shooting exercises
This course is designed to build a solid tactical foundation for students who wish to pursue more advanced firearms training in the future.
Course Format
- Duration: 8 Hours
- Classroom Instruction: None
- Training Format: Live-fire range training only
- Maximum Class Size: 12 Students
Limiting enrollment allows for more individualized coaching and increased time on the firing line.
Lead Guest Instructor
The lead guest instructor for this course is Retired Law Enforcement Officer Greg "Robi" Robichaud, currently serving as the Range Master for the George Stone Criminal Justice Training Center and the Escambia County Sheriff's Office.

Prerequisites
Students must:
- Possess a valid Florida Class "G" Statewide Firearm License
- Have previous firearms training
- Be capable of safely drawing from a duty holster and operating their firearm without direct supervision
Required Equipment
Students should bring:
- Their duty firearm
- Full duty belt with the equipment they normally wear while working
- Eye protection (prescription glasses, safety glasses, or sunglasses are acceptable)
- Hearing protection
- A hat with a brim
Students who wear body armor while on duty are encouraged to wear it during training for a more realistic experience, although it is not required.
Food & Hydration
The range is located away from restaurants and convenience stores.
Students should bring:
- Lunch
- Plenty of water
- Snacks
Smoking and vaping are permitted only during scheduled breaks and only in the designated parking area.
Certificate of Completion
Students who successfully complete the course will receive a Certificate of Completion.
Completion of this course establishes the foundation for participation in future advanced firearms training offered by FAST.

In 2003, I had a brush with Fame, when I performed a Mock Polygraph in the middle of the wrestling ring, in Pensacola, Florida at the WWE Smackdown. The test was on Hulk Hogan/Mr. America and Vince Mcmahon. Was seen worldwide. It was silly, but it was fun.
I am certified as a Forensic Hypnotist, in the field of Memory Recovery for criminal cases. I have performed this service for Local Law Enforcement Agencies in the past. Aiding in the recovery of additional memory of the crime that aided in the apprehension of the suspect in a Kidnapping/Sexual Assault Case. All Test will be done onsite, with the location provided by you.

Meet Your Instructor
Lonnie J. Isom is a retired law enforcement officer with nearly 30 years of service with the Pensacola Police Department. Throughout his career, he served in Uniform Patrol, Major Crimes, Community Services, and Community Relations, while also gaining extensive experience in recruiting, hiring, and personnel selection.
From 2000 until his retirement in 2017, Mr. Isom served as the department's Lead Polygraph Examiner and Personnel Officer, conducting pre-employment examinations and background investigations for prospective law enforcement applicants.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Mr. Isom has served as an Adjunct Instructor at the George Stone Criminal Justice Training Center, teaching law enforcement and corrections recruits in firearms, emergency vehicle operations, and defensive tactics.
Today, he is the owner and lead instructor of FAST (Firearms and Security Training), LLC, where he specializes in training and certifying Florida Security Officers, Armed Security Officers, and private citizens seeking professional firearms instruction.
Mr. Isom currently serves as a contract Background Investigator with ADC, Ltd. NM, conducting federal background investigations for the Department of Defense (DoD), Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
